And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

(2nd message on the Series Out of the Box  The present of Peace)

Isaiah 9.6

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The season of waiting– ADVENT

The weeks leading up to the birth of the Savior.

The weeks leading up to coming of God in the flesh.

“and He will be called wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

What do you personally make of this Title of Jesus, Prince of Peace?

If you have been around this crazy world for some time,

We know life isn’t fair. Things don’t always turn out right.

And when we don’t know why—we sometimes get anxious, nervous, and stressed.

So—the question in the midst of crazy for some may very well be today

How do you get peace in your life?   Move over – If Jesus is the Prince of Peace….

How?  When?  Where?  Please?

Now then, know this that I am more convinced today then

Ever before—that God’s peace is not something you work for or beg for.

It’s a gift you receive by faith….

Well, that’s great Don—but Peace seems to allude me almost daily

I know and will confess to you all that Peace in my life or the lack thereof is a

direct consequence of a few things—so yes, as we by faith receive Christ Jesus

The Prince of Peace into our lives—life still happens – so I would like to share

With you some of the practical things, principles that over the years I am finding…

to be a reality—

John 14.26,27

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

The Prince of Peace came—Christmas—and then the Prince of Peace left—

The Ascension after His death and Resurrection—but He did not leave us alone

He gave us the advocate, the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is at work to teach you all things and remind you of the truths of

the Scriptures and the reality of knowing Christ.

Therefore—when we are honest, we know how easy it is to not

to not hear the Spirit—to avoid the Spirit—to chase after our own stuff.

For you see we have all at some point been given somewhere

Someplace a bad bill of sale— For doing this life of following Christ is not done by you and you alone—
that is False.

1 Thessalonians 5.16-24

Rejoice alwayspray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

These are three things that we can do— as to be at Peace—to enjoy peace

  1. Rejoice always
  2. Pray continually
  3. Give thanks in all circumstances

Stay joyous through this crazy life—focus on Him—Rejoice always

Prayer matters—as you live in this crazy world—Pray pray pray

Stay thankful—be thankful—you have a relationship with the Living God

Through faith in Christ—be thankful. Life is tough, life is Cray cray, people

are nuts, people let us down, but we have a relationship to the Living God

through faith in Christ Jesus—we don’t work to earn it, we fail often, we don’t

have it together—but He Does—and the Prince of Peace—His Spirit lives in us.

Do you want to have peace in your life?

1 Thessalonians 5.19-22
Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.

  • We can and will quench the Spirit—
Quenching the Spirit is you and I doing life as if the Spirit is silent
Doing life on our own—and soon, we sense the weight of broken
Relationships, first with God, then with others…. Do not quench the Spirit
  • Don’t Treat prophecies with contempt
Think of Prophecy as the words that point us to God’s truth
For and in our lives, through friends, relationships, people in our lives.
  • Hold on to what is good
  • Reject every kind of Evil Reject evil, call it out, decide the truth about evil and run from it

It looks like the Garth Brooks song The Thunder Rolls—There is a line in the song –  it goes like this

“There’s a storm moving in
He’s heading back from somewhere
That he never should have been”

That’s when rejecting evil is too late—He’s heading back from somewhere that he never should have been… anyone know what that is?  Yea, that’s when

The peace of God, that’s when Peace is long gone— that’s when evil has won.

So, Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.   1 Thessalonians 5.19-22

And then we read what God will do

1 Thessalonians 5.23,24
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

The God of Peace (The Prince of Peace)

Will sanctify you (The process of following Christ)

Your whole person, spirit, soul and body will be kept blameless for the day Jesus returns.

So then,
When our lives seem to become uncontrollable.
When people all around us are… people.

When problems/issues are unexplainable.

  1. Rejoice always
  2. Pray continually
  3. Give thanks in all circumstances

Follow the Process friends—the process of

As you give your life to Christ—daily

The God of Peace (The Prince of Peace)

Will sanctify you (The process of following Christ)
Your whole person, spirit, soul and body will be kept blameless for the day Jesus returns.

Hope—Peace— and today—for each of you—find time to get

Allow the Spirit to do His work in you.

Write these verses down this week and put them on your mirror, and check them

out every morning… Consider the Prince of Peace in your life, every day.

John 16.33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

2 Thessalonians 3.16
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
